The Business Journey for the upcoming IUCN World Conservation Congress features a wide range of events that demonstrate the critical role of business in implementing global goals for conservation and sustainable development.
The Business Journey provides a roadmap for participants along four different themes that explore how companies can value and conserve nature, manage their biodiversity impact, contribute to the effective and equitable governance of natural resources, and invest in nature-based solutions. Furthermore, these events will outline how companies can contribute to IUCN’s global conservation agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“Overall, there will be more than 100 business-related events at the IUCN Congress that demonstrate why business must be part of the solution going forward,” said Giulia Carbone, Deputy Director of IUCN’s Business and Biodiversity Programme. “Collaboration is essential if we are serious about transforming business practices, scaling up public-private partnerships and accelerating collective action in favour of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.”
The IUCN Business and Biodiversity Pavilion will be the hub for business engagement during the public Forum at the Congress from 2-5 September.
This Pavilion, alone, will host more than 30 sessions, exploring a range of issues – from best practices in sustainable tourism and the impacts of Chinese investment in Africa, to the latest tools for valuing natural capital and the lessons learned by companies implementing biodiversity net positive strategies.
Under the theme, “Planet at the crossroads,” the IUCN Congress is being held in Honolulu, Hawai’i. An IUCN Members’ Assembly will follow the public Forum there from 6-10 September. Held once every four years, the Congress brings together thousands of leaders and decision-makers from government, civil society, indigenous peoples, business and academia with the goal of conserving the environment and harnessing the solutions that nature offers to global challenges.
